About Me
My name is Troy Thomas. I am a Secwepemc residing in the Canadian city of Kamloops, BC. I am attending Thompson Rivers University (TRU) working toward attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English Literature and minoring in History. I am entering my fourth year of study, and hope to graduate by April 2021.
In addition to studying, I am also a traditional Secwepemc storyteller, having told stories of Coyote and Bear, and also the origins of the Secwempemc people.
I am currently enrolled in TRU’s Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) program intending to teach overseas as an English instructor. However, the varied nature of life dictates surprises to transform the best laid out of plans, so I am open to whatever opportunities may approach me. Regardless, I do specifically intend to teach in Japan should everything work out as planned as it has been a longtime dream of mine to do so.
My long term goals are to work toward a Masters degree in English literature as well as apply for a law program as my greatest strength and preferred method of interaction is as a facilitator. However, teaching has also been a longtime dream, and I would attempt it to see if my goals should change in the doing of it.
