The lesson plan was good, but my performance in class was off.

I’d spent some time on the lesson plan with my partner. We did a good job, basing the plan off a couple of Secwepemc stories: one of “Coyote and the Salmon”, and the other of “Coyote and Fox and Coyote’s New Clothes “. We’d worked hard over the lesson plan.

For teaching though, I rushed through the material. I was hand-holding my students through the process as well. I spoke too fast. My language wasn’t controlled either. All in all, my anxiety overwhelmed me.

I can recover from this though. I bombed, so to speak, the whole performance. It’s a question of experiencing it. This is important. One step at a time. I can improve.

I’ll have to practice speaking out of class. Work on my language cadence, and work on word choice.

In hindsight, as this is quite a bit of time after the fact, I am improving in my language speed and word choice. It’s a bit shaky, but I can improve.

I do a have gift of improvisation, but over-relying on it can get me into trouble. It did this day, as I decided on a change from the lesson plan before class. Improvisation can work for those with the experience, but as I don’t yet have such a foundation, I need to stick to the lesson plan.
