This lesson was a success. We took from two weeks previous, and the week previous, and recovered from our stumble.
We did a fun game of Kahoot to start with. We then did a debate. Students expressed opinions on a few workplace topics that were hopefully relevant to them considering their home cultures’ attitudes toward working hard, and doing a lot of overtime. The students definitely got into debate mode, and they lost track of time. We teachers did our best to interject, and allow them to leave, but the students had much to say. On that, it was a huge success.
As we had done the topic previously, and the format was something we were already familiar with having attempted it prior, we did very well. The lesson coalesced much of what we had done over the semester. We really began to become “instructors” at this point. If we were to be cut, we would bleed somewhat like instructors do (as the old Calvin and Hobbes comics mused, teachers sleep in coffins all summer, right?)
The feeling I had leaving this lesson was of great success. I hope to replicate more and more of this success in the future. However, I must always remember when moving forward, do so one step at a time; walk, rather than run.
